Data published by public opinion companies on the issue of abortion show variations in time and in the way it is approached. For several years, the companies Factum, Cifra, Interconsult and Equipos Mori, among others, have been publishing the results of these polls showing the growing number of Uruguayans in favor of the legal change. Since 2002, amidst the debate about the passing of the reproductive health defense bill (2002 - 2004), the public opinion begins to take a clear stance in favor of changing the law in force in the country. At the same time, the approval rate for the most controversial circumstance: “woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy” was 22% in 1994, and 53% ten years later. The percentage is currently 63%. |
